The Emerald Hour

The Shashi Hotel, a boutique hotel in Mountain View, California, houses an elevated bar experience known as the Emerald Hour. We designed their brand to embody their sophisticated clientele, fresh seasonal ingredients, and sensory experience.

Cocktail bar by night, the space serves as a breakfast bar for the hotel in the morning. The pattern, color scheme, and typography hint at the dichotomy of night and day through their high contrast and moon-like ‘O’.

M–O pushes to areas of uncomfortableness yet always is ready to compromise, if need be. I found this helped us get to a better product/outcome.”

The Emerald Hour

Emeralds are one of the world's most valuable gemstones, and both the stone and their color are often revered as symbols of good luck. They are said to have equalizing properties, creating emotional balance and promoting positive energy. Hour is a word commonly associated with drinks: happy hour, cocktail hour, midnight hour. Together, the brand name represents quality time spent between forward thinking guests over invigorating cocktails.

The Emerald Hour logotype, like the gemstone of its namesake, is structured and refined. Its high contrast and off-kilter counters create an unusual elegance while the brand’s color palette draws from their fresh and refined cocktails. The high contrast black, white, cool gray, and a deep green color palette allow the details of the typography, material, and ingredients to shine through.
